كشفت دراسة أجرتها جامعة ولاية بنسلفانيا الأميركية عن أن أحد المركبات المشتقة من مكونات زيت السمك قد يساعد على تحقيق الشفاء التام من أحد أنواع مرض اللوكيميا (ابيضاض الدم).
وأشارت الدراسة إلى أن مركّبا مشتقا من أحد مكونات زيت السمك أظهر فعالية في القضاء على الخلايا الرئيسة المنتجة للخلايا السرطانية عند الفئران المصابة باللوكيميا النخاعية المزمنة.
ويعتبر هذا المرض واحدا من أورام الدم السرطانية التي تصيب في الغالب الأشخاص الراشدين في مرحلة وسط العمر، حيث يعاني المريض في المراحل الأولى من أعراض عامة كالتعب وفقدان الوزن وفقدان الشهية، إلا أنه مع تطور المرض يُلحظ تضخم في الطحال والعقد اللمفاوية، كما قد يُصاب المريض بالشحوب ويُظهر قابلية للنزف.
وبحسب النتائج التي نشرتها "دورية الدم" امس السبت فقد أظهرت التجارب المعملية التي نفذت على الفئران أن مركب "دلتا-12 بروستاجلاندين جاي 3"، الذي ينتج من أحد الأحماض الدهنية أوميغا-3 الموجودة في السمك وزيت السمك ويدعى "إي.بي.أي"، يستهدف الخلايا الرئيسة المنتجة للخلايا السرطانية الموجودة في الطحال ونخاع العظم، فهو ينشط موّرث "بي 53" فيها المسوؤل عن برمجة موت تلك الخلايا
وخلصت الدراسة إلى أن بعض المركبات المشتقة من تلك الأحماض الدهنية أوميغا-3 لديها القدرة على قتل الخلايا الرئيسة المنتجة لخلايا الدم السرطانية عند الفئران، مع تحقق الشفاء التام لتلك الكائنات وعدم عودة ظهور السرطان مرة أخرى.
